SL - The Cruelty of Some Individuals

I have a dear friend in SL who lost her same-sex partner to cancer awhile back. She is still very much in love with that person, and honors her memory every waking moment.

I recently heard that people started telling her to "get over it" - and one individual had the damned nerve to accuse her of killing her mate, in open chat!

Just what the hell is wrong with people that think they can hide behind an avatar and pull that kind of shit on other people, then have the audacity to whine when someone else does it to them? Because they do, and you and I know it.

It is nobody's business who you love or where you love them - whether it's in the concrete universe, the virtual universe, or some blending of both.

It is nobody's business how you go about mourning for someone that has died.

It is nobody's business what your sexual preference is...

...and yet, my dear friend is facing harassment over all of that, and more.

Is this really the kinds of people we're bringing into Second Life? If so, I want nothing to do with them.

We (as in Willy and I) offered our friend a new home on Inworldz, where there is zero tolerance for any sort of harassment. People get banned if they try to pull on someone what was pulled on our friend.

She has faced accusations of murder, blatant sexual harassment from men, and too many instances of "get over it" from people who have likely never lost anyone close to them in their lives.

I'm sorry, but if you are lucky enough to find that one-in-a-million person, it doesn't matter if they have passed on. Their spirit thrives, and you can still love them just as much as if they were standing right in front of you.

My mother was like that with my stepdad. Nobody dared tell her to "get over it".

How cruel, insensitive, and downright abusive is that? I can't even begin to articulate my disgust with the people who have harassed my friend.

MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS YOU WORTHLESS PIECES OF DOG CRAP. How DARE you propose to dictate to another how they should feel? How would YOU like it if others did that to YOU?

Good grief...we're not talking teenagers in actual age. We are talking adults who never stopped acting like teenagers.

Go back to your Facebook account, or Myspace, or whatever self-glorifying website you came from, because no decent person wants to see you in their community.

To my friend: I know it hurts sweetie, I know it hurts a lot. It hurt a lot when circumstances caused Willy and I to break up for a short while, circumstances that were not entirely of our making, but included the meddling of others. I want you to know that there are decent people out there, even if they happen to be standing behind or being blocked by total asshats and douchecanoes. We're here sweetie, and we love you.

You have a home with us if you need it, whether it be on SL or on Inworldz.
